For the fifth anniversary (May 12th) of the Sichuan Earthquake in China, Chinese artist and activist Ai Weiwei calls for people to send in drawings and pictures of flowers. The earthquake five years ago caused nearly 70,000 deaths, of which around 10,000 were children, and left millions homeless. Original tweet from @aiww:
The fifth anniversary of Wenchuan (Sichuan) earthquake is approaching. Send us flower themed pictures, ones which you drew, your children drew, or you like. I will send them to everyone after editing. Respect life, refuse to forget. email@example.com
Artists! Fandoms! Everyone! Please join this project! We do not yet know what Ai plans to do with the pictures, but it’s likely he will make them into an art piece in memory of the victims of the earthquake. A simple picture of a simple flower is enough, there are no boundaries, there are no requirements. Send your flower to firstname.lastname@example.org, or help spread the word! Thank you.
